Once a student attains a rank of 1st Degree Black Belt, the time between ranks becomes the number of years equal to the next rank. For example, advancement from 1st to 2nd Degree Black Belt should take at least two years, from 2nd - 3rd Degree Black Belt should take at least three years, etc.

Each level of black belt also contains both required and optional forms to be learned and performed for rank advancement. Required forms are list first in each rank and are in bold print. All other forms are considered optional. Also in each rank, there are some training/skills that are not part of rank advancement, but are listed at the typical rank they should be introduced. The training/skills are listed at the bottom of each list and preceded with an asterisk (*).
